EDM Microdrilling

Microdrilling is a machining technique that until recently was considered very difficult to perform due to challenges related to material properties, such as hardness and drilling depth. Today, by using electrical discharge machining (EDM), it is possible to carry out this process with speed and precision.

EDM microdrilling is suitable for:

  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminium
  • …and many other metals

The hole is produced using an electrode of known diameter and a flushing system with dielectric fluid. This setup is also used to create preholes for wire EDM technology.

This extremely versatile technique can also be applied to hardened steels and hard metals, producing small diameter holes with considerable depth. With this technology, we can drill holes starting from Ø 0.2 mm to depths of up to 300 mm, although hole diameter and depth may vary depending on specific conditions.

Meccanica Tecnica’s philosophy is defined by precision, technical expertise and specialised skills, and we work every day to refine our methods and improve our capabilities.
